Dr. Kalin performs complete eye examinations as well as office visits for routine care and the management of eye diseases. This includes examination for glasses and contact lenses.
During a complete eye exam, you can expect your eyes to be dilated. It is helpful to have dark glasses or someone else to drive you home, as dilation will blur your vision. The dilation allows Dr. Kalin to test your eyes for conditions including: glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Our office has state-of-the-art equipment to aid in the evaluation and management of many eye diseases.
All cataract operations are performed by Dr. Neil Kalin at the Wills Eye Surgery Center in Wilmington. In nearly all cases, the procedure is performed with the patient awake and only minimal intravenous sedation. The eye is made numb with drops and NO INJECTIONS, NO STITCHES, AND NO PATCHES are used. A foldable intraocular lens is inserted through an incision less than 3 mm in size. If a patient has significant astigmatism, a toric intraocular lens can be used to minimize the astigmatism. Dr. Kalin has performed thousands of cataract operations.
Dr. Kalin performs outpatient laser eye surgery in his Newark office and at the Wills Eye Surgery Center. Selective laser trabeculoplasty can be used in the treatment of glaucoma. In many cases, following glaucoma laser surgery, treatment with drops is not needed.
The YAG laser can be used to restore vision if it declines following cataract surgery.
Many eyelid procedures can be performed in the office. These include removal of growths on the eyelids and drainage of chalazia (styes).
In-Office Optical Shop
We have an optical shop located conveniently in the office. We carry a wide variety of frames, ranging from budget priced to high-end designer frames. All frames have a minimum of a one year warranty.
We use the highest quality optical lenses. Many types are available, from single vision lenses to progressive bifocal lenses.
Remote Frame Tracing Technology
If you need to replace your lenses and do not have a backup pair of glasses, we can trace your frame. This will speed the progress of your order and enable you to keep your present glasses until your new lenses arrive.
Contact Lens Fitting and Dispensing
Dr. Kalin performs fittings for many types of contact lenses. These include soft as well as gas permeable lenses. We use the most up to date contact lens modalities including monthly, bi-weekly, and daily disposable contact lenses. If you have astigmatism, a toric contact lens may be needed. The contact lens fitting can usually be performed at the time of your routine eye examination.
Contact lenses can be ordered conveniently from our Web store.
